Eligibility: Find Out When You Can Enroll

Eligibility Requirements

Medicare Part A (hospital insurance) is generally available premium-free if you’re 65 or older and have worked at least 10 years (40 quarters) paying into Social Security or Medicare taxes.

Medicare Part B (medical insurance)
is available to anyone 65+ or under 65 with certain disabilities, but it comes with a monthly premium. Together, Parts A and B make up Original Medicare.

Medicare Part C (Medicare Advantage)
is an alternative to Original Medicare offered by private insurers; you must first be enrolled in both Parts A and B to join.

Medicare Part D
provides prescription drug coverage through private plans and is also available to anyone enrolled in Part A and/or B.

Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans help cover costs not paid by Original Medicare, like deductibles and coinsurance, but you must be enrolled in both Parts A and B to purchase a Medigap policy. Choosing the right combination depends on your health needs, lifestyle, and budget—but it all starts with eligibility.
